ALLEN PARK -- Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz filled out his coaching staff Wednesday, keeping several coaches from the previous regime.
Special teams coordinator Stan Kwan, special teams/assistant Brad Banta, receivers coach Shawn Jefferson and running backs coach Sam Gash were retained.
Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham were named to Detroit's staff last month.
Here is a look at the new Lions coaches:
Jeff Horton, quarterbacks
He worked as the special assistant/offense under Linehan for three years with the St. Louis Rams. Before that, he was head coach at the University of Nevada and UNLV.
George Yarno, offensive line
A 17-year veteran in the collegiate ranks, Yarno has one year of NFL coaching experience. He was the assistant offensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. He was offensive line coach at Arizona State, LSU and Washington State.
Tim Lappano, tight ends
He has bounced between the NFL and college coaching jobs since 1997. He was the co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach at Purdue in 1997 before becoming the Seattle Seahawks' running backs coach in 1998. He was the offensive coordinator for three years at Oregon State and had a four-year stint in the same capacity with the University of Washington (2005-08). In between those jobs, Lappano was the running backs coach for the San Francisco 49ers for two years.
Bob Karmelowicz, D-line
A 17-year NFL veteran, Karmelowicz spent the past two years as the special assistant to the head coach for the Houston Texans. Before that, Karmelowicz was the defensive line coach for the Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington and Cincinnati Bengals.
Matt Burke, linebackers
For the past six seasons, Burke worked in Tennessee as an administrative assistant and as a quality control coach on defense.
Tim Walton, defensive backs
He has been a secondary coach since starting his coaching career in 1995 with Bowling Green. This is Walton's first season in the NFL. Last year, he was the defensive coordinator at Memphis and, before that, he spent four years with the University of Miami -- three years as the defensive backs coach and one season as the defensive coordinator.
