PLAYER NOTES

--QB Daunte Culpepper is doubtful for Sunday's game at Green Bay with an injured shoulder. Marinelli said he didn't think Culpepper would practice this week.

--WR Calvin Johnson is questionable with a bruised knee, according to Marinelli, though Johnson said after Sunday's game he was all right and would play against the Packers.

--LB Jordon Dizon is doubtful because of a hamstring injury, according to Marinelli.

--CB Travis Fisher is day to day with a concussion.

--LG Edwin Mulitalo missed the Saints game with an ankle injury. It is unclear whether he will return against the Packers.

REPORT CARD VS. SAINTS

PASSING OFFENSE: F -- The Lions' best play, a 43-yard touchdown catch by wide receiver Calvin Johnson, was nullified by a penalty because right tackle Gosder Cherilus wasn't on the line of scrimmage. Quarterback Dan Orlovsky went 10-for-23 for 125 yards, with two interceptions.

RUSHING OFFENSE: B -- Rookie running back Kevin Smith had his second 100-yard game, with 24 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown. But the Lions needed five downs for that touchdown. After failing to score three times within the 5, they drew a pass interference penalty on fourth-and-three, setting up Smith's one-yard TD.

PASS DEFENSE: F -- Drew Brees is within striking distance of Dan Marino's record for passing yards in a season. Had the Saints wanted to pad Brees' stats, they could have. But they were content to let Brees go 30-for-40 for 351 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions left several receivers wide open and failed to record an interception once again. They have only four this season.

RUSH DEFENSE: F -- The Saints ran the ball as easily as they threw it, averaging 6.0 yards per carry. Four players scored rushing touchdowns, as the Saints scored a touchdown on their first six possessions and went 11-for-12 on third down. The only third down they didn't convert was the final kneel-down of the game.

SPECIAL TEAMS: F -- The only special teams play that really mattered was the opening kickoff. The Lions knew they needed to do everything they could to keep the Saints' offense at bay, and on the first play of the game, they gave up a 60-yard kickoff return, starting the Saints at the Detroit 41. They capitalized with a touchdown, of course. The cruelest irony of the day was that the Saints gave punter Glenn Pakulak the game ball - even though he didn't have to punt a single time. Pakulak is from the Detroit area.

COACHING: F -- The Lions were so disorganized that on the first play from scrimmage in the second half, they called timeout. But they weren't charged a timeout because they were penalized for breaking the huddle with 12 men. When you do things like that - when your first-round pick nullifies a touchdown by aligning improperly, when you're completely inept on both sides of the ball - you're poorly coached.
