REPORT CARD VS. VIKINGS

PASSING OFFENSE: C -- Daunte Culpepper hit Calvin Johnson for a beautiful, 70-yard touchdown that gave the Lions a 13-10 lead in the third quarter. But that was the highlight of the day. Otherwise, Culpepper went 13-for-23 for 150 yards with three sacks. At least he didn't throw a pick, after throwing six in four games. Besides the TD, Johnson caught only two passes for 14 yards.

RUSHING OFFENSE: D -- When the courts suspended the suspensions of Minnesota defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams, the Lions were the big losers. Culpepper was stuffed on a fourth-and-one sneak at the Minnesota 6. Kevin Smith rushed for 63 yards on 22 carries.

PASS DEFENSE: B -- After intercepting only two passes in their first 12 games, the Lions intercepted two in the first half. They also knocked out Gus Frerotte, who suffered a lower back injury. But in the second half, Tarvaris Jackson came off the bench and posted a career-high 143.8 passer rating, going 8-for-10 for 105 yards and a touchdown.

RUSH DEFENSE: B -- The Lions limited Adrian Peterson to 102 yards on 23 carries and forced him to fumble three times. But they didn't recover any of those fumbles, and they couldn't stop Peterson when it matter most - late in the fourth quarter. Chester Taylor rushed for a 17-yard touchdown.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A-minus -- Jason Hanson went 3-for-3 on field goals. Nick Harris boomed a couple of punts, including a 66-yarder, getting the Lions out of some bad situations. Aveion Cason was solid on returns. The Lions allowed a 43-yard kickoff return, but otherwise had a solid day.

COACHING: F -- The Lions wasted too many timeouts, starting with the second snap of the game, when the Vikings went with an empty backfield and the Lions messed up the call. Even though the "Williams Wall" was not suspended for the game, offensive coordinator Jim Colletto went right at it on that crucial fourth-and-one sneak and watched Culpepper fail to get the first down.
