Detroit Lions Notes, Quotes 2008-10-30
--Drew Stanton brushed off Daunte's Culpepper's workout Tuesday. Like Marinelli, he pointed out the Lions work out free agents each Tuesday. Quarterback Tim Rattay visited last week. "People come and go all the time," he said.

--Wide receiver Mike Furrey held his annual charity Halloween bowling party, and former Lions wide receiver Roy Williams returned from Dallas and made news with his costume. He dressed up as former Lions running back Tatum Bell, who was accused of stealing current Lions running back Rudi Johnson's luggage.

--Chicago coach Lovie Smith thinks the Lions will be fine without Williams. "Roy Williams was a good football player," Smith said. "We played against him a lot of years. He's a special athlete and all of that. But you do move on. As we talked about earlier, as we talked about the Detroit Lions, they're playing their best football right now. Sometimes guys leave and the team becomes better no matter what the talent level is of the player that left. I'd just say right now the Lions are playing better football. The receivers that they have that remained are still capable."

--Bears quarterback Kyle Orton posted a career-best 121.4 passer rating the last time he played the Lions, Oct. 5. "He picked them apart," Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher said. "The thing I like about Kyle, he's not stupid. He'll take a sack. A sack's not going to kill you. You're not turning the ball over. You're not throwing the ball up there, letting someone else go get it. He'll take a sack, and we'll punt the ball and see if we can play some good defense."

--Why won't the Bears overlook the Lions? "They played better the last few weeks," Urlacher said. "We know that. We've seen them on film. They're still in the NFL for a reason. They have players on that team that are here for a reason. They're NFL-caliber players. So we've got to get ready to play. Every week is the same for us."

BY THE NUMBERS: 6 -- Quarterbacks who have posted career-best passer ratings against the Lions this season, in only seven games. Minnesota's Gus Frerotte, a 15-year veteran, was the only exception.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's real embarrassing the position that we're in right now." --WR Mike Furrey, on the Lions' 0-7 start.
