Detroit Lions Notes, Quotes 2009-04-10
--Kicker Jason Hanson is participating in the Lions' offseason program for the first time in seven or eight years. He used to go home to Washington state in the offseason. But now his family wants more stability, and though he's coming off an excellent season, he turns 39 in June. "As I get older, I knew that I needed to be with the guys and push myself," Hanson said. "I'm running with Calvin Johnson right now. How much more can you get pushed than that?"

Is he keeping up with CJ?

"Absolutely not," Hanson said. "He's not breathing when he's done. I'm snorting and I'm on my knees. It's pretty comical, really."

--The Lions signed offensive tackle George Foster to a one-year contract for the second straight year, even though he lost the starting right tackle job two years in a row. Foster originally joined the Lions in 2007 in the trade that sent cornerback Dre' Bly to Denver. Scott Linehan will be Foster's third offensive coordinator.

--The Lions signed center Dylan Gandy and guard Matt Lentz to one-year deal. Gandy, a fourth-round pick in 2005, spent '05-07 with Indianapolis. He was with Denver and Oakland last year but did not play in a game. Lentz, a Michigan product, has never played an NFL game.

--Free agent offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam visited the Lions. But his agent, Joby Branion, said he is "still contemplating" his options and no decision has been made. Salaam likely will wait to see if the Lions draft a tackle.

--The Lions will hold their annual Draft Day Party on April 25 at Ford Field from 3-8 p.m. The draft begins at 4 p.m. The event is free. Fans can watch the draft on the Ford Field video boards. Other festivities include autograph sessions, photo opportunities and clinics with former Lions players, an interactive area, tours of the Lions' locker room and children's activities like face-painting.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We were like, 'Who's that? Who's that? Who's that?' So it's all different again." -- Kicker Jason Hanson, a 17-year Lions veteran, on walking into the Lions' facility with punter Nick Harris for the first time this offseason.
