DETROIT (AP) - Four days of practice was enough for the Detroit Lions, who started new quarterback Daunte Culpepper on Sunday. The three-time Pro Bowl selection hasn't played this season, but got the nod against Jacksonville.
Culpepper signed a two-year contract, which he negotiated as his own agent, with the Lions on Tuesday and began practicing with the team the same day.
Detroit starter Dan Orlovsky was inactive Sunday with a thumb injury.
Culpepper, 31, has thrown for 22,422 yards and 142 touchdowns with 94 interceptions with Minnesota, Miami and Oakland. He retired last year after six lackluster starts with the Raiders. An injured right knee stunted his career in 2005 and a second surgery a year later set him back again.
Culpepper is joining a team that has won only one of its last 16 games, falling to an NFL-worst 31-89 since 2001. Drew Stanton, a second-round pick out of Michigan State last year, and Drew Henson backed him up Sunday.
