The Indianapolis Colts have been excellent, winning six games in a row. The Detroit Lions have been inept, going 0-13.
When the teams meet Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, the Colts want to make sure it's more of the same.
The key to that is not taking anything for granted.
"We don't want to go into the game taking anybody lightly, regardless of record," Colts defensiveRaheem Brock said. "We're just going to run our game plan and go out there, do what we usually do. (The Lions) want to get that first win, and we don't want to be the guys who give it to them. We're going to have to play hard."
The circumstances are similar to last week, when the Colts promised not to take lightly the struggling Cincinnati Bengals, and they didn't, winning 35-3 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
But that game took a toll: Running back Joseph Addai suffered a shoulder injury and third-string running back Chad Simpson hurt his ankle.
Both might be out against the Lions.
So, the team signed Najeh Davenport, 29, who has been on and off the Pittsburgh Steelers' roster the last three seasons. The Colts (9- 4) like Davenport's familiarity with the offense - Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is a former quarterbacks coach with Indianapolis - and he is likely to spell running back Dominic Rhodes at times, and he could return kicks.
"He's a very good downhill runner," Colts coach Tony Dungy said. "I think he'll do fine for us. At this point in time, you're looking for someone who has experience in your system and he has it."
Center Jeff Saturday, who has missed the last two games with a strained calf, said he'll probably be back in the lineup Sunday. Meanwhile, the outlook on linebacker Gary Brackett, who told the media it was a fractured fibula that kept him out of the Cincinnati game, is less rosy.
"I'm optimistic about returning this season," he said. "There are really (about) eight weeks left in the season, if you consider the length of the playoffs and when the Super Bowl is, so I'll definitely be back before then. ... They just want to be smart about not rushing me back out there."
So, Buster Davis again will start at middle linebacker, this time against the Lions team that cut him at theof training camp.
Note: The Colts waived tightJamie Petrowski, an Indiana State product.
