THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
If you've forgotten about the Milwaukee Badgers' 16-0 victory over the Racine Legion on Thanksgiving Day in 1923, perhaps these Thanksgiving Football moments will be as memorable as your mom's cornbread stuffing:
Nov. 28, 1974: Dallas Cowboys 24, Washington Redskins 23 - The Cowboys win with a rally led by backup quarterback Clint Longley, who replaces an injured Roger Staubach.
Nov. 27, 1980: Chicago Bears 23, Detroit Lions 17 (OT) - Chicago's David Williams clearly wants to get home for his holiday meal. He returns the overtime kickoff for a touchdown.
Nov. 27, 1986: Packers 44, Lions 40 - With less than a minute to go, Walter Stanley returns a punt more than 80 yards to give the Packers the victory in a shootout.
Nov. 25, 1993: Miami Dolphins 16, Cowboys 14 - Snow on Thanksgiving? Sure. Snow in Dallas on Thanksgiving? It was sure to be a crazy day, and the game lived up to it. Players celebrate touchdowns by making snow angels, and the Dolphins win after Dallas' Leon Lett touches a blocked field goal downfield. Miami recovers and gets another shot at a field goal, this time converting it for a last-second victory.
Nov. 22, 2001: Packers 29, Lions 27 - Brett Favre throws for 252 yards and the Packers survive a Mike McMahon-led rally when a two-point conversion fails with seconds left.
